4 Life Changing Books On The Holy Spirit

By Fin Sheridan

We love bringing you resource recommendations here at CBN READ. There’s so many options out there and it can be hard to know where to start. Sometimes great speakers and pastors don’t always equal great writers. Other books might have some weird or even dangerous ideas. And sadly, some books might just not be worth reading.

This month’s CBN READ theme is ‘The Supernatural’. Yes, we do write in themes. No, it’s not a new thing. Thanks for noticing though. Anyway, enough pre-list waffling. On with the recommendations!

Note: we’ve included links to buy each book from www.eden.co.uk because, well, it’s nice to support Christian retailers. Other options are of course available.

Hosting the Presence: Bill Johnson.

Like them or loathe them, you can’t deny there’s a lot of good that comes from Bethel Church in Redding, CA. Musically, they make huge contributions through their church albums and their part in bands like Jesus Culture’s story. But Bill Johnson, Senior Pastor, also has written many books and this is one of the finest. If you’re looking for a book that will stir you to live a life where walking with the Holy Spirit is the priority, then this is a must read. There’s so much in here that will ‘whet your appetite’ for a greater awareness, influence and demonstration of the Holy Spirit.

Practicing The Power: Sam Storms.

This is an excellent book; particularly for leaders and pastors who want to introduce more of the gifts of the Holy Spirit into their ministries. Sam Storms again and again points to how the Scriptures encourage believers in spiritual gifts and their use today whilst also providing practical ideas and balanced thoughts. He avoids hysteria and weirdness whilst also acknowledging the supernatural has elements that we can’t fully understand. Well worth your time.

Forgotten God: Francis Chan.

Francis Chan rocked the Christian book world with ‘Crazy Love’ but ‘Forgotten God’ is no less important. Chan writes an inspiring and biblical book that, just like his preaching, captivates the reader to enter into the type of life he is calling for. This is a great book for those who are new or unsure about the Holy Spirit and want something that provides basic, biblical teaching about him.

Everyday Supernatural: Living a Spirit-Led Life Without Being Weird – Mike Pilavachi and Andy Croft.

From the leaders of Soul Survivor, this book is a really helpful and honest addition. Both the authors have been instrumental in introducing thousands (literally) of young people into a life with the Holy Spirit and their honest, practical and refreshingly normal approach to being “everyday supernatural” is well worth hearing.
