5 Modern Versions Of Hymns That You Have To Hear

By Fin Sheridan

Sometimes the best way to fall in love with a classic is to hear a new interpretation of it. Whilst we love listening to new music here in the CBN READ office, sometimes it’s great to just put an old hymn on and sing along. Here are 5 of our favourites that you’ve got to hear!

Rock of Ages: Page CXVI. I could’ve chosen any song by Page CXVI – they have covered a wealth of old hymns and songs. However, this is a favourite. I love the vulnerability and desperation for Jesus in the lyrics.

Come Thou Fount: Kings Kaleidoscope. A hipster classic, Kings Kaleidoscope have released some brilliant covers including ‘Jesus Paid It All’ and ‘How Deep The Father’s Love’. This version of Come Thou Fount helped me fall in love with this song.

It Is Well: Bethel Music. Whilst not technically a direct cover of the original, I couldn’t leave this out. With over 17 million plays on Spotify, this song is one of Bethel’s most loved and with good reason. Sing it loudly and feel peace flood your heart!

Before the Throne of God Above: Sonicflood. One for the soft rock fans! This live version is one where you turn the music up, roll the windows of the car down and sing as loudly as possible!

Blessed Assurance: Elevation Worship. This classic speaks for itself. Elevation songs often have a slightly hymnal quality about them so it’s no surprise they occasionally release hymns. This version is from their 2014 album ‘Only King Forever’.
