Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke is principally known for his Great Gospel Crusades throughout the Continent of Africa. It has now been over 50 years since Reinhard Bonnke founded the international ministry of Christ for all Nations (CfaN).

You know, I hear a lot about “last crusade,” but it doesn’t mean you’re retiring right?

No. Well, it’s impossible, you know. It’s simply impossible for me to just sit there and not have memory of what God has done. It is written that “He gives power to the faint and to those who have no might, He increases strength.” All the pension rules are breaking, and the retirement rules are unhinged and we keep on preaching you know? That was my last crusade in Nigeria, but it doesn’t mean that it was my last sermon at all.

Let’s talk about the book ‘Are We Flammable Or Fireproof?’ What’s the meaning there?

I have written this and I consider it to be my legacy for the next generations. Not just that we have the Holy Spirit as a subject, but that we know He is present with us. Many people feel weak and they are not. Pastors or Preachers feel weak and they say ‘I need the Holy Spirit, I need the Holy Spirit, but I’m not holy enough.’ But the Holy Spirit doesn’t come when we have made ourselves holy enough. If we made ourselves holy enough, we would not need Him anymore. So the Holy Spirit is not repelled by our weaknesses, our weaknesses attract Him. I quoted it already, ‘He gives power to the faint and to those who have no strength, He increases strength.’ I honed in on these truths and prayed that others who have got the same kind of insatiable desire to see the lost saved, follow their ministries and their lives in the very footsteps that I also walked. This book is actually how I experienced the school of the Holy Spirit, how He lectured and taught me and brought me to where I am. I believe it can be duplicated and this book is a shortcut for those who want to go with it.

What was it like for you when you first were baptised in the Holy Spirit? What happened?

Well, I was just a child of 11 years old. It was an experience that is difficult to describe. It was as if all of Heaven crowded into my little heart. I already had the call when I was 10 years old, but it reinforced everything and I believe it gave me strength for my teenage years. I didn’t flirt around because I always felt that one day I will have to preach to those girls.

What triggered the baptism for you?

It was just a prayer meeting and a deep desire I had, they preached on it so much. I always felt very unworthy. I felt unworthy because my parents told me almost every day that I was a naughty boy. So I felt so unworthy, and then I realised, there’s only one thing that makes us worthy, it’s the power of the blood of Jesus. It’s the only thing. Not because we have done good in this or that or the other, but we are cleansed from every sin by the blood of Jesus. So the blood of Jesus makes us worthy.
