What Could Be Better Than Christmas?

By Fin Sheridan

Happy Easter from all of us here at CBN READ! We’re so glad that you take the time to read and share these articles and we’re constantly praying that they are helpful and inspiring. Over the last 4 months, we’ve had thousands of people connect and read these articles, which is amazing!

Today is the reason we launched CBN READ. Today is the reason that CBN Europe even exists. Today is the most important day in the world. Obviously I’m not talking about 16th of April 2017, but what it represents. Easter Sunday. The day we celebrate that Jesus Christ rose from the dead.

For me, Easter is more significant than Christmas Day. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Christmas fan. I love the meaning of Christmas and I love the way that we celebrate it. But personally and spiritually, today matters more.

At Christmas, we celebrate that God became flesh: that Jesus became like you and I. This is wonderful and mysterious and profound. The more Christmas’ I live through, the less I think I realise just how significant it is. However, I need a Jesus who is more than me. I need Jesus to be more powerful than I am. I need a Jesus who can do what I cannot do. I need Jesus to be more than a man, I need a Jesus who doesn’t have my human limitations.

That’s why Easter is so thrilling to me. It’s where Jesus steps into the worst parts of humanity. He confronts my sin and takes it on his blood soaked shoulders, on Good Friday. He sits with me in the silence and confusion of Holy Saturday. And then he leads me into a new, divine place of resurrection on Easter Sunday.

The Easter Jesus is no longer a baby, no longer just human. The Easter Jesus is the Jesus who is able to reconcile me to God. He’s able to forgive my sin. He’s able to lead me in triumphant procession. He’s able to take away the sting of death and pain and suffering because he has risen!
