A Message From An Angel

By Fin Sheridan

I know, I know, Easter has been and gone. Like talking about Christmas in June, we have these “allotted times” often for particular verses. But the whole of this month at CBN READ, we’ve been exploring “resurrection” – how Jesus takes parts of our lives and transforms and redeems them.

From friendships to finances, there’s not an area of our lives that God can’t touch and transform. There’s not a mess that he can’t manage. No destruction that he won’t look at and wade lovingly into. Our God redeems and fixes: Romans 8:28 promises us that. Nothing is wasted in his glorious redemption plan.

However, I’m reminded by something that the angel told the women at the tomb in Luke 24:5:

“While they were puzzling over this, suddenly two men in radiant apparel stood beside them. 5As the women bowed their faces to the ground in terror, the two men asked them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

“Nothing is wasted in God’s glorious redemption plan… but sometimes, it is time to let go.”

Too often, you and I can cling so tightly to things. We’re a possessive people; by nature and design. We were created to reign, to have dominion. Sin has corrupted this God-given tendency and we have slipped into a proud obsession. We tightly hold onto to our careers, to our relationships, to our sin and to our self-righteousness.

Despite knowing that some things are “dead”; dead to us, through Jesus, dead because the season has passed, dead because God wants to make things new, we look for the living, among the dead. We want there still to be life in the bones – and sometimes there is.

Sometimes God wants us to hold on. But sometimes, he wants us to stop looking for among the dead and turn to see the living Saviour, standing beside us in the garden, no longer in the tomb, but ready to show us a new life, better than anything we could’ve imagined.

If that resonates with you, then we’d love to pray with you. Our prayer centre is open for your calls, 8am-8pm, Monday-Friday and until 12pm on Saturdays. Why not call us on 0300 561 0700?
