Help! I feel called to…

By Fin Sheridan

There’s not much that Christians love talking about as much as calling. What am I called to? How do I know? What’s the difference between godly calling and selfish ambition? Is there a difference? How will I know? Am I called? Have I stopped being called? What even is calling?!

I could literally write a whole article filled with the questions that people have about calling. Here on CBN READ, we’re going to try and help you discover about your calling and what it looks like. One way we’ll be doing that is through a mini series called “Help! I feel called to…” where we’ll discover different things that people feel called to and how to begin those. Some of these will be interviews, some will be observations, others will provide some recommended next steps. What we will help you do is discover what God has called you to and how to get started!

“What’s the difference between godly calling and selfish ambition?”

There’s something really important to remember about calling. There are universal things that God has called us ALL to and, whether we feel like we’re living in our dream job in the place we feel like we’re meant to be, we can still follow God’s calling on our lives.

Here’s some universal things that the Bible calls us to:

  1. Called to belong to Jesus: “And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.” Romans 1:7
  2. Called to love people: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7
  3. Called to humility: “He has told you, O man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?”. Micah 6:8

If you feel like you’ve already got an idea about what you’re called to, but need some help getting started, then we’d love to hear from you! Why not Tweet or Facebook us and we’ll see if we can help!
