April’s Story
“I was losing weight by the stone…”
April was raised in a Christian home, her faith in Jesus developing at a young age.
It wasn’t until April’s college years that things began to change.
Surrounded by the pressure to be beautiful, grown up and perfect, April began to rebel. Comparison and jealousy took hold of her and before she knew it, April began to develop Anorexia, a serious eating disorder.
As April began to restrict her diet more and more, thoughts of losing weight consumed her. As time passed she isolated herself from those around her to limit opportunities to eat.
Eventually, a deep self-hatred set in causing a deep depression. “I was in a dark, desperate state”, she says.
A turn of events occurred when April visited the doctor and was prescribed some medication to treat her acne. This medication caused significant weight gain which prompted people in April’s life to comment on her weight.
Compliments that she now looked ‘healthy’ were received as a devastating blow to April’s self-esteem as Anorexia took control.
A second visit to the doctor, for a routine blood pressure check, forced the doctor to inform April that she was now considered clinically obese. Hearing this shook April’s world. So much so that, when she returned to the car to see her Mother, she no longer had the energy to keep any more secrets.
April told her Mother everything, about the lies, the secrecy, the depression and the Anorexia. Her Mother graciously listened, cried with her and prayed. She suggested that April get some supported prayer ministry in order to overcome her battles and she knew exactly who could deliver it.
In desperation, April agreed to her suggestion and went to see her Mother’s friend. That day April walked through a significant session of forgiveness and deliverance and said that the very next day she felt a huge shift.
She had been set free.
Now April is a vibrant young woman with everything to live for. She has received healing and restoration and, rather than hiding in isolation, she boldly shares her testimony with others who need the same move of God in their lives.
