Is it Possible to Have Freedom In Your Finances?

By Issy Baldwin

Throughout the day, our mind can go from thinking about what to have for dinner to what we’re going to be doing in three years time. I don’t know about you but I love thinking about the future! Whether that’s thinking about my plans for tomorrow or wondering about what holiday I’ll take in 6 months time. However when I think about planning and I think about the list of things that I want to do, my mind will always remind me of one condition…finance.

We can so easily spend so much time thinking, dreaming or worrying about our money. Sometimes we can even let it control our thoughts. If we’re not careful we can allow the enemy to bring fear or anxiety around our finances.

The enemy will try and waste our time by making us panic about our future, but when we put our faith in Jesus, we can access His peace.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:34; ‘Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.’

I love this verse because it’s so obvious and simple. God wants us to be responsible with our expenses and He has called us to steward what He has given us, but that doesn’t mean we have to spend time worrying and focusing on what we’ll have tomorrow or next year. We have to CHOOSE not to worry. The enemy can try and waste our time by making us panic about our future, but when we put our faith in Jesus we can access His peace.

So instead of worrying what we may or may not have tomorrow, ask Jesus what He wants you to do with your finances today. He may tell us to bless a neighbour, or to give in to a student’s mission trip. Finance is temporary, we cannot take it with us to heaven. Once we take our eyes off this worldly worry, and focus them on Jesus instead, we will be blessed with so much more than money could ever buy us.
