“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

How do we see God, is it with any misconceptions? I have a lot of experience of people, including myself, using God to ask for things. An I’m not saying we shouldn’t go to God with what we need, but first and foremost that shouldn’t be the foundation of our relationship and we shouldn’t have an expectation that God will do as we instruct or tell Him.

This scripture tells us that God will give us what we need, not only that, but more than the bare necessities. Now’s not the time to get Disney’s ‘The Bare Necessities’ stuck in your head but, one helpful tip from the song tells us to “forget about your worries and your strife.” A good concept and through prayer something we can have success in. This song is only focusing on the basics, the everyday mundane requirements; so not only do we not need to worry about simple basic needs but God tells us that He’ll provide for us more! 

This comes with recognising who God is. We have a God that’ll provide for us – this doesn’t mean that we do nothing instead we are focused on the provider to equip, enable and sustain us.

Sometimes when we have money to spare we’ll save it up, there may be plenty of reasons for doing this; for a holiday, for that future home, next car, or just for safe keeping, the list goes on. And everything of the flesh and earthly logic tells us to be like this, but our spiritual lives are far more important. God instructs us here to share with others and to be a blessing to others.

God doesn’t want us to store up for our own kingdom but for His. He doesn’t want us to have peace of mind because of what we have, instead because of who He is. We have stewardship over what God has given us and we need to make a decision, with God, about where, who and what we should give to.
