Pursue Love

By Tra Knox

I don’t know about you, but I don’t find pursuing love always easy. One amazing thing about the word ‘love’ is that it is a verb – a doing word – meaning love is active. The pursuit of love requires action. This is very interesting as I can say ‘I love you’ but if I don’t back it up with an act of love, it can mean nothing. There is a demand on us to do what 1 Corinthians 13:3-7 says:

“If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

What a sobering statement.  A friend encouraged me with this scripture recently and asked me to replace the word ‘love’ with my own name.  Oh my goodness, that hit me really hard and the truth is that it should provoke me.

We are different to those who don’t have love (God) and we should be set apart.  We should be different to be around.  Our love should be the first thing that people experience.

This is the challenge we have whether it’s a loved one, an acquaintance or someone we just meet once, our responsibility as children of God is to look for the best and wear love.
