The NFL QB Who Seeks God’s Face

By Fin Sheridan

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek. Psalm 27:8

You might not have heard of Derek Carr but, as the NFL’s highest paid player, he’s a familiar face to millions of American Football fans. The 25 year old Oakland Raiders QB (quarterback) is also a committed Christian and has talked multiple times about his faith.

For example, when he signed his deal, Carr talked about his priorities with his wealth. “The first thing I do is pay my tithe, just like I always have since I was in college”. Next up was buying something for his wife. The man has his priorities right!

This video below comes from a Play4Him; an organisation that helps professional athletes use their platform to talk about their faith. In it, Carr describes what happens when a friend encouraged him to “seek the face of the Father to see what he wants you to do, every single day”. What happens when Carr does that is a powerful and challenging story – a reminder of what happens when we join with Psalm 27:8 and seek his face!
