A New Home, A New Hope.

When food and shelter became an impossible struggle, Myrna and her young daughter – Mary Joy – didn’t know where to turn. CBN’s Orphan’s Promise stepped in and gave Myrna and Mary Joy practical help, just in time. Donate now and help to transform lives all over the UK and Europe.

How did CBN come to Myrna and Mary Joy’s aid?

Ever since Myrna became a single mother, food has been scarce for her and her 6-year-old daughter, Mary Joy. Sometimes they would go for weeks at a time only having yams to eat. Over time, Mary Joy became malnourished. “I help out on my parents’ small farm to bring home a little food for my daughter,” Myrna told us. “But with nothing but yams, Mary Joy started getting sick and weak.”

“I wanted to help my mom plant vegetables,” said the little girl. “But I have to stay home when I’m sick.”

One year, two powerful typhoons hit the Philippines and destroyed Mary Joy and Myrna’s home. The mother and daughter fled their home and took shelter at Myrna’s parents’ home.

“I was scared,” remembered Mary Joy. “The wind was so strong it shook grandma’s house. After the storm, my cousins and I all slept on one bed. My mum slept on the cold floor.”

“I had no idea how I would be able to rebuild our home,” said Myrna. “All the crops on our family farm had been completely washed away in the storm.”

Then, CBN’s Orphan’s Promise came to their community. First, we established a food program for Mary Joy and the other malnourished children in the community.

“The chicken and squash taste good,” said the little girl with a smile.

“I’m glad Mary Joy gets to eat food that we cannot afford to serve at home,” said her mother. “Since the Orphan’s Promise feeding program began, she hasn’t been getting sick anymore.”

But, we didn’t stop there. We gave Myrna everything she needed to start a worm farm. The operation allows Myrna to make and sell organic compost to all the farmers in her community, and business is booming! Last but not least, we made sure the mother and daughter had a safe place to live; CBN’s Orphan’s Promise built the two a brand new home to live in!

“We have much more space to move around,” said Myrna. “Our new home is a symbol of hope for us. I am very grateful to God who has given me a second chance to be able to provide for my daughter.”
